Spanish 3
For this video, my partner and I had a conversation about our dogs. To help us have authentic conversations with spanish speakers, we tried to have it in the most organic way possible. By starting the conversation with my goal of borrowing a lint brush, we were able to establish a more realistic situation. I had to learn to pronounce words like “perro” and “cepillo”, which helped me get comfortable the differences between English and Spanish. Additionally, phrases like “cepillo de pelusa”, “pelo de perro”, and “refugio de animales” helped me understand how more complex items can be explained.
Our preparation started by reading through our script and asking for help with words we couldn’t pronounce. My partner and I both struggled with rolling our “rr”s in “perro”. It took many tries, and we still missed a few in the final video. This is something I will have to practice more often to do comfortably. Once we memorized our lines, we added emphasis to certain phrases and added a few new ones. I was most proud of my success with “Lo conseguimos de nuestros amigos que lo sacaron un refugio de animales.” Not only was it a more complex sentence than I was used to, but I had to change it a few times to get the right meaning. I still need to work on the double “r” pronunciation and confidently projecting. My partner, Michael, also struggled with “rr”. He did a excellent job of persevering and was successful in the video. He forgot his line, “¿Que tipos perros tienes?”, but recovered nicely by asking “¿Como se dice…?”. This allowed be to prompt him an we got back on track. For future videos I would like to learn phrases to help me converse with Spanish speakers in my community. I would start with something like, “I am learning Spanish, do you mind if I try this in Spanish?”. I would want to converse with librarians and cashiers to get comfortable. Practicing such a conversion in our next video would be very helpful. I don’t really have a preference in who I’m partnered with.
n this video, I wanted to teach my mom Spanish. She did not want to be shown in the video, but Minnie Mouse kindly agreed to lip-sync for her.
For our first Spanish honors assignment, we were asked to reflect on the advantages that being bilingual brings to an individual and their community. Additionally, we recorded ourselves reading a passage in Spanish to help us track our improvement throughout the semester.
For this assignment, we wrote six sentences about a photo of ourselves. En esta fotografía, estoy en la Getty Villa en Los Ángeles.
In this photograph, I am at the Getty Villa in Los Angeles. Me gusta ir a museos de arte. I enjoy going to art museums. Los jardines, el arte y arquitectura me inspiran.
